And exclusive to the HPX255 is a remote terminal that makes it compatible with Panasonic’s AG-EC4 Paint Box remote control. This optional remote control unit has the ability to control virtually all menu, set-up and gamma functions that can be accessed directly through the camcorder’s on-board menu, including shutter, iris, gain, filter positions and detail. The optional EC4 comes with a 10 meter BNC cable that will output the menu onto a monitor. This combines with Genlock input, TC input and output, and HD SDI output to allow multi-camera operation that includes camera control.
Weighing 5.5 pounds, the AG-HPX255 offers a 22X zoom lens for a wide 28mm to 616mm (35mm equivalent) with 3 independent adjustable rings (Zoom/Focus/Iris), which allows it to cover most shooting situations without the need for a wide-angle conversion lens. The 22X lens also features an Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S.) function that ensures stable images during shooting. Additional advanced focusing functions, including Focus in Red and Expand.
The AG-HPX255 offers variable frame rate (VFR) capability in 1080p from 1fps to 30fps (17 steps) as well as 720p from fps to 60fps (25 steps) at 60Hz for undercranking/overcranking to create fast or slow-motion effects. This allows the HPX255 to offer a level of performance that approaches shoulder-type P2 models, while providing easy operation for image production and broadcasting use.
